Despite the recent assassination attempt of former president Donald Trump on Saturday (July 13), the Republican National Convention will be continuing as originally planned.
Trump himself even announced on his Truth Social platform that the convention would be forging ahead.
“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin, and The Republican National Convention, by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a ‘shooter,’ or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else,” he wrote in a Sunday (July 14) post. “Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 P.M. TODAY. Thank you!”
The convention is a four day event that kicks off today and will make Trump the official Republican nominee for fall’s presidential election. The RNC will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a key battleground state this year.
The convention will host speeches from Trump, his to-be-announced running mate, and a number of others in support of a republican presidency. Here’s everything you need to know to tune in.
The convention begins today and ends Thursday (July 18). The first official session is scheduled to begin Monday (July 15) at 12:45 p.m. local time, or 1:45 p.m. ET. The full schedule of events can be found on the GOP Convention website.
Trump will speak later on in the week, a speech which will mark his official nomination as the 2024 Republican presidential candidate. Trump’s pick for vice president, who still has yet to be announced, is expected to deliver a speech on Wednesday (July 17).
Aside from the two main speakers, Trump’s family members, as well as celebrities, RNC leadership, and GOP officials, will all be speaking throughout the convention. Some of the biggest names on the list of speakers include Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Tucker Carlson, Savannah Chrisley, Vivek Ramaswamy and prospective VP nominees like Sen. J.D. Vance, Gov. Doug Burgum, Sen. Marco Rubio and Sen. Tim Scott.
Trump is expected to give his nomination acceptance speech on July 18, the final day of the convention. It is possible that Trump will decide to take the stage more than once throughout the event.
Many news platforms will stream the convention in addition to broadcasting it across cable channels, per the New York Times.
All platforms offering live TV — including Hulu+Live TV, FuboTV and DirecTV Stream — will also broadcast the event on any channel covering the 2024 RNC. The listed platforms also all offer free trials if you do not already hold a subscription.
For those looking for cable TV options, all of the above networks will also broadcast the events on their networks. There will also be additional options for cable streamers, per the New York Times.
