HBO‘s new crime drama Task has everything. It’s got DelCo accents and coffee cups from Wawa. It’s got Rita’s wooder ice and thieves with hearts of gold. It’s got Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, and Martha Plimpton. It’s got chickens you can pet and a cop who used to emcee Catholic school dances as “DJ Grassanova.” Okay, we’re kidding around a little bit. Task is the latest Philly-set crime series from Mare of Easttown mastermind Brad Ingelsby. The series follows working class hero Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey), a single dad and garbage man who has been robbing drug dens under the cover of night. When one robbery goes awry, ending in the deaths of four people and the kidnapping of a sweet kid, Robbie discovers that he’s in over his head. Not only has the FBI assembled a task force led by former priest Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) to find him and his cohorts, but the Dark Hearts, the gang he’s been stealing from, are out for blood.
