It’s been a frustrating season for the Yankees and the Mets, and neither team was able to gain much traction in the most recent Subway Series. But the math still says both clubs can make it to the postseason.

Are there trades that could help each not just get to the playoffs, but make some noise there? The Yankees have been in desperate need of a steady left fielder the entire season. And the Mets’ bullpen has had nothing but trouble handing games over to David Robertson.

Maybe, however, we should look at this from another view. Maybe the locals would be better served conceding this season to the Braves and Rangers and Rays and Dodgers and selling off a few veterans who are not likely to be part of the future for a brighter 2024?
