SIGN UP NOWIt was only one series. In the preseason opener. In August.
But …
The Jets had to be encouraged by what they saw from new quarterback Justin Fields on Saturday night against the Packers. Encouraged, not convinced, not sold, but encouraged that Fields and the starting offense moved 79 yards in 10 plays, capping it off with a 13-yard touchdown run by Fields.
During the drive, Fields looked decisive, something that was an issue for him earlier in his career. The knock on Fields in Chicago was he was slow to process and did not move off his first reads quick enough. But twice on Saturday night, he bypassed a deep ball and hit fullback Andrew Beck underneath for nice gains.
