It turns out Netflix‘s Territory couldn’t mark its own territory on the streamer past Season 1.
What is being described as the Australian Yellowstone has reportedly been canceled after one season, which was released on Oct. 24, 2024.
DECIDER contributor Joel Keller issued a STREAM IT to the series in his Territory review, praising “the sweeping vistas of the Northern Territories, backed by good performances by Anna Torv, Robert Taylor, and Michael Dorman. ”
Fans of Yellowstone may have found comfort in a similar series, though the short-lived project leaves only six episodes of Season 1 for prospective viewers to enjoy.
Curious as to what Territory is about and why it was canceled?
Here is what we know. Keep reading to learn more.
Per the streamer’s synopsis, Territory centers on the Lawson family.
“When the world’s largest cattle station is left without a clear successor, generational clashes threaten to tear the Lawson family apart,” the synopsis reads. Sound familiar?
It continues, “Sensing this once great dynasty is in decline, the outback’s most powerful factions – rival cattle barons, desert gangsters, Indigenous elders and billionaire miners – move in for the kill.”
According to Netflix’s Tudum, the show was filmed in remote locations across both the Northern Territory and South Australia.

Citing sources close to the project, C21Media reports that they were “confident” that Territory would land a second season, as the first installment concluded with a cliffhanger, and that those involved were “poised” for a sophomore season. However, according to insiders, the decision to not go through with renewing the series was “made a couple weeks ago,” though the cancellation was finally addressed publicly after the news got out.
“We are incredibly thankful to have had the chance to work with the wonderful cast and production team to bring Territory and the stunning Australian outback into the homes of millions around the world,” said Netflix’s director of content for ANZ, Que Min Luu, in a statement, per C21Media. “Although we won’t be continuing with another season, we eagerly anticipate working with all of them again in the future.”
While the current description under Territory on the Netflix site says that the series hit the streamer’s Top 10 in 73 countries, C21Media says that the series ranked among the Top 10 in 74, and What’s On Netflix notes that the series hit the Top 10 in 75 countries.
