Coming home never felt so good.
After an intense pair of close contests in Detroit, the New York Knicks return to Madison Square Garden for game five of their best-of-seven, first-round showdown against the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday, April 29.
A win on Tuesday would clinch the series for Tom Thibodeau’s team, who are currently up 3-1.
Getting to this point has been no walk in the park for Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart, though.
In game four, a 94-93 nail biter victory for the Knicks, things got hairy in the final seconds of regulation. Pistons star Cade Cunningham — who dropped 25 points, grabbed ten boards and dished ten assists for a nifty triple-double — missed a jumper from the free-throw line and the ball scurried to Tim Hardaway Jr. in the corner.
The former Knick threw up a prayer only for Hart to jump in and stop the shot.
“Did I make contact with him? Yeah. I made contact with him,” Hart said in a postgame conference. “Was it legal? I don’t know.”
Ball game. Later, referee David Guthrie admitted to a reporter that a foul should have been called. As expected, there were some mixed feelings in the Motor City.
“Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff went after the officials. Detroit fans booed,” the New York Post reported, further solidifying the rivalry.
