This Independence Day weekend, the New York Mets and Yankees are both hoping to be freed from their respective slumps.
From July 4-6, the reeling Flushing and Bronx-based teams meet in their second Subway Series matchup of the 2025 season at the Amazins’ Citi Field.
The last time the Big Apple rivals met was in mid-May. At the time, Carlos Mendoza and Aaron Boone’s ball clubs were on fire and leading their respective divisions. In fact, in our story about the game, The Post was so high on both teams we wrote “This just might be a preview of the 2025 World Series.”
Less than two months later, Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto’s streaky squad sits two games behind the Phillies in the NL East after having gone 3-7 and dealing with a depleted pitching staff in their last ten games. A few boroughs over, Aaron Judge, Max Fried and co. have fared a little — but not much — better. As of now, the Bronx Bombers are tied for first in the AL East sporting a 48-38 record following their 4-6 slide in the past two weeks.
Clearly, both teams could use a pick-me-up heading into All-Star Game weekend (where Judge and Lindor are starting).
That’s where you come in.

We recommend checking out Aaron Boone’s squad’s complete 2025 schedule including all dates, start times, opponents, and giveaways right here (including the uber-viral “George Costanza sleeping under Steinbrenner’s desk” bobblehead on Aug. 21 when they face off against the Red Sox).
For fans who won’t be able to make it all the way out to Citi Field over Fourth of July weekend, we suggest checking the game out on the small screen.
If you’re a Mets fan, you’ll want to tune into MLB.tv where you can (hopefully) hear Gary, Keith, and Ron analyze and crack wise.
