Goldie Hawn won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1969 for her turn as Toni Simmons in Cactus Flower. The performance was something of a revelation for Hawn, who was then best known for her silly, sexy work on TV’s Laugh-In. Cactus Flower was also Hawn’s first film role, putting her in an elite category of actresses who won their first Academy Awards for their debuts. (Audrey Hepburn and Lupita Nyong’o are other examples.)
