Colleen Hoover has not just made it big on the (really) small screen via BookTok. The author’s work made its way to theaters everywhere with It Ends with Us, the drama-ridden production starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni — though there is more where that came from.
While Lively and Baldoni’s legal battle persists long past the film’s theatrical and streaming release, co-star Brandon Sklenar was put on the spot by Gayle King, who questioned whether he is “team Blake or Team Justin” on CBS Mornings in February.
“I’m team It Ends with Us,” Sklenar replied with a chuckle.
However, Hoover’s got more movie deals coming up the pike that will have fans of hers heading to the theater.

Fortunately, a lot of progress has been made since Hoover teased that she had read the Verity script on Watch What Happens Live in August 2024. The film is directed by Michael Showalter and stars Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway, though fans of Hathaway’s were not necessarily in support of her taking the role when the news broke of her casting in November.
Hoover’s self-published 2018 novel is about Lowen (played by Johnson in the film), who is offered the job of finishing author Verity Crawford’s (Hathaway) novels after a mysterious accident leaves her unable to do so, per People. Hired by Verity’s husband, Jeremy (Hartnett), Lowen discovers that she is in for much more than that, as she learns of the Crawford’s dark secrets.
According to Variety, the trailer for the movie, which hits theaters on May 15, debuted at CinemaCon on Wednesday (April 2).
Per Variety, this project was announced in October 2024, with distributor Universal Pictures aiming for a Valentine’s Day weekend 2026 theatrical release. Deadline reported last month that Maika Monroe will star in the movie under Vanessa Caswill’s (Love at First Sight, Thirteen) direction.
According to Hoover’s website, the 2022 novel is about “troubled young mother” Kenna Rowan, who, after being in prison for five years “yearns for a shot at redemption.”
Hoover’s 2019 novel follows mother and daughter Morgan and Clara, who “would like nothing more than to be nothing alike,” per the description on Hoover’s website. When Chris, Morgan’s husband and the only one who can unite the two women, “is involved in a tragic and questionable accident,” they must navigate the aftermath.
Scott Eastwood was tapped to join the cast last month, which already included Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, Mason Thames, and Willa Fitzgerald, per The Hollywood Reporter. The film, directed by Josh Boone, is currently set for an Oct. 24 release date from Paramount Pictures, per Deadline.
It Ends with Us is streaming on Netflix. The film is also available to rent or purchase on Prime Video and the Microsoft Store.
