As the Yankees saw Wednesday night’s game get away from them in a disastrous bottom of the eighth inning in Houston, Devin Williams and Aaron Boone were both tossed by home plate umpire Brian Walsh.

Try it freeAnd while Williams was ejected for simply telling Walsh — accurately — that he “missed four” pitches behind the plate during the frame, Boone got his money’s worth.
Before Boone left the field after taking Williams out of the game, he got in Walsh’s face and clearly yelled at the umpire — who missed numerous calls in the final few innings — “You stink. You f–king stink.”
It was the sixth time this season Boone has been ejected — matching his total from a year ago, but still well short of his career-high nine in 2022.
Boone and Williams certainly had reason to be upset in the loss, as they fell behind in the eighth thanks in large part to Williams allowing four runs on just one hit and three walks.
Williams was likely irked by two apparent missed calls to Jesus Sánchez and a pair more to Taylor Trammell, which forced in the go-ahead run with the bases loaded.
“When you’re making good pitches, which I was, not getting those calls really changes the course of an at-bat,” Williams said after the game.
“Obviously, (Carlos) Correa hit the double, so I kind of had my back against the call right away, made some really good pitches to Sánchez, which [Walsh] missed two in that at-bat. But yeah, I competed, but I don’t know.”
And the Yankees’ bad fortunes didn’t end in the eighth, as their comeback attempt was thwarted when Jazz Chisholm Jr. struck out looking at a pitch that was outside for the final out.
The loss dropped the Yankees to 3 ¹/₂ games back of the Blue Jays for first place in the AL East, while remaining in a virtual tie with the Red Sox for the top AL wild-card spot.
