WFAN morning drive host Gregg Giannotti is curious about why Pat McAfee would want to go to ESPN, where bosses would seek to “control” his content.

Tuesday, The Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that ESPN was the likeliest destination for “The Pat McAfee Show,” which has appeared to be in the process of exiting its partnership with FanDuel.

“ESPN clearly is a content-controlling entity and probably has gotten even worse over the years with some of the Disney stuff that has gone on and has leaped into ESPN and political leanings and the things that they cover and everything else,” Giannotti said on “Boomer & Gio” on Wednesday, according to Barrett Sports Media.

“Why would – because if I’m him as I try to put myself in his shoes – I’ve got this great deal, I’ve got this creative control, I can say whatever I want, but now I’m going to go over to [Disney], who [is laying] off 7,000 employees and is probably going to have their hands in everything that I do?”

Boomer Esiason mentioned that McAfee and his wife just welcomed a baby, that there are administrative tasks of running his show that he would like to get away from and McAfee’s preexisting relationship with ESPN through “College GameDay”.

“You’re telling me the other two hours would be the show that he’s doing now where he’s saying whatever he wants,” Giannotti asked, “but then that one hour [on] ESPN, he’s going to be trotting through Tim Kurkjian and all these other schmucks that they used to put on ESPN Radio before it went to the toilet?”

WFAN's Boomer Esiason and Gregg Giannotti finished No. 1 overall in the winter ratings book.

While it does not seem likely McAfee would agree to have his guests dictated by The Mothership, it is a valid point by Giannotti that McAfee would have to give up some elements of the content freedom he has become accustomed to, first at Barstool and later as an independent host.
