Peter and Peter are cousins — but genetically, they are actually more like brothers.

The duo — who are known on TikTok as “The Peter Twins” — look nearly identical but their matching smiles and curly hair comes down to more than just dumb luck.

Taking to TikTok to talk more about their unique situation, they explained that not only are their fathers — Pedro and Peter — identical twins — but also their mothers, Sally and Chelsea.

”Because our moms are also identical twin sisters, that actually makes us full siblings, not half-siblings,” they revealed in a clip that’s been viewed more than 1.2 million times.

Instead, Peter Squared, who live in the US, go by the term “twin cousins,” adding their parents got married and found out they were pregnant at the same time.

”Even though we’re brothers genetically speaking, we’re also cousins,” they helpfully added.

As for their matching names, it’s not entirely as clear as their genetics.

“Our parents do everything together [but both having sons at the same time] was just crazy,” they said.

Because of the coincidence they “decided to give their boys the same name.

“So that’s why we’re Peter and Peter,” they quipped.

The Peters are quaternary twins, which according to WebMD are incredibly rare and occur when one set of identical twins has children with another set of identical twins.

Although they are still cousins, the offsprings of the identical twins genetically appear closer to siblings born to the same parents.

This concept baffled TikTok users, who struggled to process the confusing family tree.

“I just don’t have the brainpower to process this,” one wrote.

“I love how its [sic] a massively confusing situation but they gave you both the same name to add to the confusion,” added another.
