NextImg:'Weapons' comes to digital, but when will the 'Weapons' movie be streaming on HBO Max?

Horror fans have been eagerly awaiting the Weapons streaming release date, and soon audiences will be able to watch what some are calling the scariest movie of the year at home. But although Weapons is coming to digital platforms to buy and rent this week, it’s not yet available to watch on a subscription-based streaming service. You’ll have to a wait a little longer for that!

Weapons is director Zach Cregger’s follow-up to the 2022 word-of-mouth hit, BarbarianWritten and directed by Cregger, Weapons tells the story of a bizarre missing children case, in which 17 children left their homes in the middle of the night to gather in an unknown place. The parents start to blame the children’s teacher, Justine (played by Julia Garner). In addition to Garner, the Weapons cast includes Josh Brolin, Cary Christopher, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.

Weapons is just as buzzy, if not more so, as Barbarian and has made over $240.9 million at the worldwide box office so far. Now, Warner Bros. hopes to make even more money with the premium video-on-demand release. But before you pay $25 to watch Weapons at home, you should know that we expect to see Weapons streaming on HBO Max before the end of the year.

Weapons will be available to buy or rent on digital platforms on Tuesday, September 9 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, September 8). You’ll be able to buy and rent digitally on Amazon PrimeApple TV, Fandango At Home, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime the movie will cost $24.99 to buy, and $19.99 to rent. If you rent the movie, you’ll have 48 hours to view after hitting “play.”

Weapons will also release on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on October 14. Both the digital and physical releases of the movie will come with special features, including the following featurettes: “Director Zach Cregger: Making Horror Personal,” “Weaponized: The Cast of Weapons,” and “Weapons: Texture of Terror.”

Weapons is not yet available on a subscription-based streaming service, but we do expect to see the Weapons movie streaming on Max, free to Max subscribers eventually, because Weapons is a Warner Bros. movie, and Max is the streamer owned by Warner Bros.

If you’re new to HBO Max, you can sign up for as low as $9.99/month with ads, but an ad-free subscription will cost $16.99/month. If you subscribe via Prime Video, you can also take advantage of a seven-day free trial.

If you want to stream even more and save a few bucks a month while you’re at it, we recommend subscribing to one of the discounted Disney+ Bundles with Hulu and HBO Max. With ads, the bundle costs $16.99/month and without ads, $29.99/month.

The Weapons movie HBO Max streaming release date on has not yet been announced yet, but we can make an educated guess based on previous releases. Final Destination: Bloodlines, another New Line/WB horror movie, was released on PVOD about one month after opening in theaters, and began streaming on Max a little under three months after it was released in theaters. If Weapons follows a similar release pattern, you may see the movie streaming on Max around late October 2025. Of course, Warner Bros may want to speed up the HBO release for spooky season, so it’s possible you’ll see Weapons streaming on HBO Max even earlier.

But that’s pure speculation. The Warner Bros. home releases have varied by title. In the meantime, you can always watch Weapons by buying or renting the movie online.
