From The Today Show anchors to Kelly Clarkson, NBC flew a number of its fan-favorite on-air talents to Paris to cover the 2024 Summer Olympics, which kicked off last weekend. But one star who won’t be joining the rest in France is Colin Jost, who reveals in an exclusive clip from Peacock‘s Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson why he was sent to Tahiti instead.

In the clip, which was obtained by DECIDER, Jost sports sunglasses and a button-up vacation shirt as he tells Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson why he decided to cover the Olympic surfing competitions in Tahiti.

“That’s a great question. I love surfing,” he says in front of a tropical backdrop. “I don’t want to surf here where they’re doing it because it looks like a place I could die. But I love generally surfing.”

The Saturday Night Live star has a rather simple answer when Hart asks him why the surfing competitions are taking place nearly 10,000 miles away from the rest of the events.

“Surfing in Paris is traditionally bad. It’s more of a river setup,” Jost says with somewhat of a “duh” inflection in his voice.

“French Polynesia offers some of the best surf in the world,” he continues. “So even though it’s very far away and very early in the morning here — much earlier than I would like to be alive — we’re doing the surfing here instead. It’s one of the best waves in the entire world.”

Olympic Highlights with Kevin Hart & Kenan Thompson features the two comedians as they hilariously “recap the best and most unexpected moments throughout” the Olympic Games, according to a press release. The eight-episode series features in-studio competitions, conversations and interviews with other famous guests.

The show airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through August 11 on Peacock at 6 p.m. ET  / 3 p.m. PT. Check out the exclusive clip from today’s episode above.
