Two NYPD officers bravely rushed into the frigid waters of a Queens pond Tuesday to rescue a blind dog that was drowning in the brush.
The hair-raising body camera footage shows the cop fully submerging himself in Baisley Pond in Jamaica around 8:15 a.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls of a dog in distress.
The swimming officer uses a stick to push aside the weeds and reveals that Sparky — a blind 8-year-old Border Collie — was trapped inside the dense emergent plants growing several feet from the water bank.
“Hey, pup! Pup, you’re okay, you’re okay,” the officer reassured the freezing and frightened sheepdog.
Sparky can be heard repeatedly grunting and appears unable to move as the NYPD officer urges him to swim closer.
That’s when the officer grabbed hold of Sparky’s scruff and freed him from the branches before picking him up.
The cop furiously rushed back to the bank, while attempting to hold the frosty pup above the surface until he was able to hand Sparky off to his partner, who met them in waist-deep water.
By the time the duo reached the dry grass but were vigorously huffing and puffing.
The officer placed Sparky on the ground, where he lay without moving, except for this fast-paced shuddering.
“You alright?” the partner asked.
“I can’t feel anything,” the officer wearing the bodycam replied.
Before taking care of themselves, the officers put Sparky in the back of the squad car, covered him with an NYPD jacket and blasted the heat.
The canine was then taken to a veterinarian for further care.
“Thanks to the quick-thinking officers, Sparky and its owner were reunited,” the NYPD said in a statement.
