A Virginia fugitive wanted for armed robbery in his home state pleaded guilty to felony drug and gun charges on Long Island Monday and is now facing 10 years behind bars in the Empire State, prosecutors announced.
Shanti Felton, 20, was nabbed with a stash of more than 4,000 fentanyl pills and three loaded guns while hiding out in Bay Shore in Suffolk County on Oct. 19, 2022, prosecutors said.
“This case highlights the effectiveness of law enforcement working together at the local and federal level to remove a dangerous individual from our streets,” Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said in a statement.
“Not only did this defendant have a cache of illegal weapons, but he also had thousands of dangerous pills,” Tierney said. “Luckily, we caught this fugitive without any of our officers or members of the public getting injured.”
Prosecutors said Felton was hiding out while on the run from Virginia authorities when Suffolk County cops and US marshals executed a search warrant at the home.
Felton tried to sneak out through a basement window while lugging a loaded automatic pistol but was taken into custody after a short standoff with police, prosecutors said.
Inside the house police and marshals found 4,035 fentanyl pills, 220 pressed methamphetamine pills, $5,510 in cash, four cellphones and three loaded guns — including one modified to be fully automatic.
Felton faces 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on Dec. 8, according to the plea agreement.
The charges against him in Virginia, which stem from an armed robbery in May 2021, are still pending.
