Mikal Bridges reacted to the news that he had been sent over the Brooklyn Bridge to the Nets’ biggest rival, the Knicks, the same way everyone across the metropolitan area did.
“This is crazy lol,” the newest Knicks star wrote on X just minutes after news broke that Bridges had been dealt to the Mahnatinites for a massive haul on Tuesday night.
The blockbuster deal sent Bridges to the Knicks in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic, four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via the Bucks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-rounder.
The news of the trade quickly spread across social media, hitting the phones of Bridges’ former Villanova teammates and now current Knicks teammates, Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson.
“Omg,” Brunson simply wrote on X as he found out about the trade.
“YO WE F–KING LIT,” Hart excitedly wrote while quote-posting about the news.
Hart also posted a photo of himself, Brunson, Bridges and fellow Knicks/Nova guard Donte DiVincenzo all in a group video chat.
But the excited Hart wasn’t done there, calling back to several posts on social media where he asked Bridges to “call me” with the assumption being that he was trying to recruit his former Villanova teammate to the Nova Knicks.
“YOOOOO @mikal_bridges FINALLY HIT MY LINE!!!!!” wrote Hart.
And when Heat star Bam Adebayo called out Hart or tampering, Hart shot back: “Let us celebrate in peace!”
The move reunites Bridges, Hart, Brunson and DiVincenzo who spent two years with each other at Villanova and provides the group a chance to replicate the success they had in college.
In fact, the last time they all wore the same jersey was when the Wildcats won the 2016 national championship in Houston.
The Nova Knicks weren’t the only ones excited about the move as Knicks super fan and ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith couldn’t but chime in as well.
He started the 1:02 video he recorded and posted to X by screaming “YES!”
“I’m sorry I like this move by the New York Knicks,” Smith said in the video at one point. “He’s young, he’s energetic, he’s seasoned, he defends and he fits right into the culture of the New York Knicks. And that’s all I ask.”
Actor and huge Knicks fan Ben Stiller even chimed in on X.
“WOW YES!!” the “Dodgeball” star simply wrote.
