A miniature version of “King Kong” played out in the middle of an Indian market square when a monkey grabbed a dog and began jumping from rooftop to rooftop.
A bystander in the city of Jaipur captured the shocking moment the monkey was spotted on the rooftop of a local business on Saturday with a black and white dog in its hands.
The dog appeared to be trying to free itself from the simian’s grip, with the monkey effortlessly holding on as it looked out into the crowd.
When the monkey appeared to notice the attention, it held onto the dog with one hand and leapt to a nearby balcony before making a harrowing jump to another rooftop to make its getaway.
The video cuts as the crowd laughs at the monkey’s escapades, and it remains unclear what happened to the poor pooch.
Instances like this, however, are not uncommon in Jaipur, which houses a massive Hindu temple complex home to a large colony of monkeys, which has earned it the moniker, The Monkey Temple.
The city has become a tourist destination for those wanting to see the monkeys, however, many travel websites warn that the simians are quick to steal from people and advise visitors to keep their distance from them.
While the monkeys can be playful, some of them have a dark history when it comes to dogs, with two monkeys reportedly killing around 250 dogs in 2021 for revenge in Maharashtra, 621 miles south of Jaipur.
The primates were believed to have slaughtered the dogs by dragging them to the tops of buildings and trees and dropping them to their deaths as retaliation against a canine who killed one of their babies.
The kidnapping duo were eventually caught by local authorities and shipped off to another forest and released.
And India isn’t the only place where these scenes play out. In Malaysia, another monkey was captured on video kidnapping a puppy, with the dog held hostage for three days in September 2021.
After multiple rescue attempts, residents in Taman Lestari Putra succeeded in freeing the pup after throwing rocks at the monkey, causing it to put the dog down as it fled.
