Vanderpump Rules alums Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright announced they will be separating just weeks before their spinoff series The Valley premieres on Bravo.

The couple have been married since 2019 and share one child. Cartwright announced their separation on a recent episode of their podcast, When Reality Hits.

“Many of you guys have been asking me about Jax and I and our relationship,” she said. “I just think it’s important to be real and honest with you guys because our life is definitely — we’ve shared so much of our life with you guys. So, I feel like … I don’t want to seem like I’m lying or anything like that so I think it’s important for me to say this.”

Cartwright continued, “I know on my last podcast, I alluded to many marriages go through rocky times. Yes, marriages in general are very hard and I’ve had a particularly rough year this past year. Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.”

She did not state what led to the separation, noting that it is “still very hard to talk about.”

“I’m taking one day at a time,” she said. “I don’t know what the future holds, but right now my focus is on being the best mom to Cruz and I love you guys. Pray for us and everything will be just fine. We’re good.”

Decider reached out to Taylor and Cartwright’s representatives for further information.

This bombshell news comes just after Bravo released a trailer for their highly anticipated spinoff series, which the couple looking optimistically towards “the next chapter” of their lives as the cast tackle marriage and parenting together.

But the timing of this news seems awfully suspicious. Cartwright and Taylor have had a number of their own ups and downs on VPR, which leads us to believe The Valley may shed some light on what went down ahead of the separation.

Just last year, Taylor maintained that doesn’t “believe in divorce.”

“I don’t believe in divorce. My parents didn’t get divorced,” Taylor said, per People. “I don’t believe in that. Marriage is work. I’m not saying every day is amazing.”

He continued, “There’s good days and there’s bad days, but that’s marriage, and that’s what makes your relationship stronger. We love hard. We fight hard. It’s amazing.”

The Valley premieres Tuesday, March 19 following Vanderpump Rules on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream on Peacock the following day.
