It was far closer than anyone expected, but the U.S. women’s basketball team is golden again.

Pushed to the limit by host France, a heavily favored Team USA persevered in a 67-66 win on Sunday to capture their record eighth straight Olympic gold medal and their 61st consecutive Olympics contest.

They broke a tie with the U.S. men, who won seven straight golds from 1936-68.

Las Vegas Aces star and two-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson led the way with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.

The win game after the American men also defeated France on Saturday to win gold.
