A Texas train barrelled into a large semi-truck that got stuck on its tracks over the weekend, derailing the locomotive in a frightening moment filmed by a witness.
An 18-wheeler was sitting trapped on tracks near Aledo when a Union Pacific train came through and slammed into it just before 10 a.m., the Texas Department of Safety said, according to local station Fox4.
Video taken by a man sitting in a nearby car shows the train blasting its whistle before crashing into the semi-truck at full speed.
The train lifts the truck, which had an oversized load, into the air upon impact and pushes it off to the side of the tracks in a cloud of dust, according to the clip.
“The whole train is going off the rail. Oh my gosh … Look at the train! It’s flipping upside down,” the man behind the camera, Samuel Ingram, said in the video.
The footage shows each train car flipping onto its side off the rails one after the other.
Two train engines and 17 train cars derailed in total, according to the Texas Department of Safety.
The train conductor was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Fox4 reported.
Diesel fuel and oil spilled out as a result of the collision but did not pose a threat to the public, according to the Parker County Sheriff’s Office. Firefighters, hazmat crews and emergency responders worked to control the fuel spill.
No other chemicals were released and no hazmat threat was reported.
The crash occurred at a crossing along FM 5 at Annetta Centerpoint Road. The section of FM5 near the incident was closed for most of the day as crews worked to clear the tracks and the road.
