NextImg:Under Armour trolls MLB’s see-through pants: ‘We got you covered’

Amid MLB’s uniform controversy, with players around the league unhappy about Nike’s design and production by Fanatics, Under Armour delivered a not-so-friendly reminder that it was almost in charge of uniforms.

With pictures of potentially see-through pants and players complaining about the feel of the new digs that debuted this spring, Under Armour posted a picture on its X account of a player wearing its baseball pants with the caption, “We got you covered.”

While there have been complaints since the start of spring training, the noise grew louder in recent days, as some players appeared to have some issues with the pants on media day photoshoots.

Among the issues was Giants infielder Casey Schmitt’s groin region being visible through his pants while he was wearing the new uniform and posing for the team’s photo day earlier this week.

MLB issued a statement Friday to provide some clarity on the uniforms.

“The uniform pants have the same material and thickness as the uniform pants used last season,” the statement read, according to The Wall Street Journal. “There were changes to the fabric of the jersey, not the pants.”

Nevertheless, some players remain displeased.

“It’s disappointing that we’ve landed in a place where the uniforms are the topic of discussion,” MLB Players Association executive director Clark said Thursday, according to ESPN. “Each conversation with the guys is yielding more information with what we’re seeing. A lot of the rhetoric is confirmation that the pants are see-through. It’s been an ongoing conversation where each day has yielded something new that doesn’t seem to make as much sense as you would like it.”

Among the players who aren’t fans of the new uniforms is Tommy Kahnle.

Casey Schmitt’s pants appeared to be a bit too snug.

“Even I thought the last few years they haven’t been as stretchy,” the Yankees right-hander told The Post’s Greg Joyce. “But definitely this year you can notice the fabric is just a little tighter than we’re used to. I think the consensus is they’re not too great. … I know a lot of the guys don’t really like them.”

And now Under Armour has taken its shot.

Nearly a decade ago, the company was in line to make MLB’s uniforms, as Under Armour announced in 2016 a 10-year deal with the league that was scheduled to begin in 2020.

But the company did not go through with the deal, choosing to save $50 million in 2018, which allowed Nike to take over.
