It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

Ciryl Gane defeated Serghei Spivak via TKO in the second round of his main event match at UFC Fight Night in Paris on Saturday, and returned home to find his apartment burglarized.

Gane’s home in Nogent-sur-Marne, about a 15-minute train ride outside of Paris, was robbed of a Rolex watch and other jewelry collectively valued at 150,000 Euros (about $162,000) on Saturday, according to French outlet Le Parisian.

The burglar(s) gained entry by forcing open the front door, the outlet said.

Gane, 33, began his fighting career in Muay Thai, later fighting in three MMA matches in the Canadian promotion TKO.

He made is UFC debut in 2019.

Gane won the UFC’s interim heavyweight championship belt at UFC 265 in 2021 with a third-round TKO of Derrick Lewis, before losing his first professional fight ever to Francis Ngannou via unanimous decision at UFC 270 in 2022.

Earlier this year, Gane was defeated by Jon Jones via a guillotine choke submission in the first round of a heavyweight title fight at UFC 285.

After bouncing back from the loss to Jones with his win over Spivak on Saturday, Gane was pleased to prove he still belongs in UFC.

“I’m really happy about that, because my last fight was…” Gane said, shrugging, as covered by ESPN. “Today, it was my mission to prove that I’m still here.”

He has a 12-2 record since joining UFC.

As the Parisian article stated, it is not altogether uncommon for soccer players in Europe to have their homes robbed during their games.

Last year, for example, England winger Raheem Sterling left the World Cup after his home in London was burglarized.
