Another March, another Sweet 16 run for Michigan State.
The Tom Izzo-led squad upended No. 2 seeded Marquette in the Round of 32, reaching their first Sweet 16 since 2019 by defeating the Big East champion Golden Eagles 69-60 on Sunday.
The upset was led by New York native and Christ the King High School alum Tyson Walker, who scored a game-high 23 points, including nine of the team’s final 11 points to seal the victory.
The spirited effort from Walker arrives just two days after he helped hold USC’s leading scorer Boogie Ellis to just six points in the opening round on Friday.
Walker and the Spartans will take on fellow New York native Markquis Nowell (27 points) and No. 3 seeded Kansas State, who toppled No. 6 Kentucky earlier in the afternoon.
This will be Michigan State’s 15th Sweet 16 under Izzo.
