It is not an ode to one of the rainiest New York springs in decades that the Giants appear to be setting up another version of their popular “Thunder and Lightning” backfield.
It is a plan that has been in the works for years — ever since general manager Joe Schoen first considered parting ways with Saquon Barkley and using two young, cost-controlled, complementary running backs.
Welcome to the Cam Skattebo-Tyrone Tracy Jr. Era.
“Keeping that position healthy is what I think Joe was envisioning,” WFAN radio host Tiki Barber told The Post. “It blew up in their face with Saquon, but I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing because this wasn’t the right place at the right time for Saquon. It was right in Philadelphia. By having these younger backs that have so much potential, it makes the arc of intersection more in line with where the Giants are.”
