A contract dispute is brewing in South Beach.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t attended a “large majority” of the team’s voluntary offseason workouts as extension talks with the franchise drag out, according to a CBS Sports report.
Tagovailoa had reportedly been present for most OTAs in seasons past.
The team will begin organized team activities next week and it’s still up in the air whether Tagovailoa will be in attendance.
The 26-year-old quarterback is under contract through next season and is currently set to play under a $23.17 million, fifth-year option if the two sides can’t come to an extension.
In January, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said the team’s “goal is to have him [in Miami] long-term playing at a high level,” according to NFL.com.
Tagovaoila seemed to indicate in April that he would show up when OTAs kicked off.
“Just letting my agent deal with that and talk to the team about that,” Tagovailoa said of his contract situation, per Sports Illustrated. “For me, my focus is when OTAs come, go to OTAs, show up and be the best teammate I can be.”

The No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft is almost certainly looking to cash in on a surging quarterback contract market.
A year ago, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert all signed long-term deals upward of $50 million per year.
Last week, Jared Goff signed a massive four-year, $212 million contract extension with the Detroit Lions.
Tagovailoa is coming off the best season of his young NFL career, earning his first Pro Bowl honor after throwing for 4,624 yards and 29 touchdowns while leading the Dolphins to an 11-6 record and the team’s second straight postseason appearance.
Perhaps most importantly, Tagovailoa was able to stay on the field for all 18 of Miami’s games after dealing with a bevy of injuries, including multiple concussions, throughout his first three seasons.
