The USAID fiasco is illustrative of some of the problems we have in this country as we head toward bankruptcy at a breakneck speed (“USAID on anything under the ‘rainbow,’ ” Feb. 6).
Now that USAID spending has the spotlight on it, it’s understandable why they refused to allow any outside entities to review the programs. It is unacceptable that many of these programs ever got approved.
This is another example of a government that can’t provide help to hurricane victims but has money everywhere else in the world. I hope DOGE is allowed to find every wasted dollar so we can stop the march toward bankruptcy.
So: Do we all agree reform is needed?

The government has enough money to over-fund transgender programs and other pointless waste-of-money programs in mostly Third World countries. However, very recently, programs that fund veterans and 9/11 first responders were cut to the bone or entirely defunded.
Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers are fighting to reinstate these USAID programs.

It’s apparent that many of the frivolous supposed causes for USAID funding are just fronts for graft and corruption at the highest level of government. The frenzy from many members of Congress to fight these audits is out of fear that these corrupt schemes will be uncovered by this examination.
The truth needs to be brought to light by our media outlets, including The Post. The public needs to know so they can pressure their representatives to cease hindering the examination of these expenditures.
More important, they need to allow for an investigation into the ultimate destination of the money and prosecute those that benefited financially with hard-earned taxpayer dollars.

Thankfully, USAID is going out of business. Now some of those funds can be sent to Ohio where the residents have been living in terror for two years. Maybe some can also be sent to North Carolina, where residents are still trying to put their communities back together.
Surely the money is better used in the United States than for drag shows in Ecuador.

When it comes to foreign relations, our nation must speak with one voice to other countries. Having a separate agency doling out funds to forward its own causes is antithetical to that and could put our diplomats in danger.
Folding USAID’s function into the State Department makes total sense.

Capitalist America has always funded the world and will continue to do so — but now with caution. Billions have been given to nonsense programs, as we have seen with USAID sending billions to foreign DEI and transgender causes.
Former President Biden gave billions to Ukraine and the bombs keep falling. We also spent billions on illegals and are $36 trillion in debt because of the swamp’s reckless spending. Maybe the entire swamp should be audited, including all the lobbyists.
All day long, the liberal side of the aisle rants and resists, still not understanding the people voted for fiscal responsibility.

Kudos to Elon Musk and President Trump for stopping the waste of American dollars dispersed by USAID. The specific examples were jaw-dropping, to say the least. Many of the projects, like an LGBT comic book in Peru, made me spit my coffee out. Cutting the staff by thousands was also justified.
What a breath of fresh air this is for us taxpayers. We need to triple our efforts and make examples of people pulling these games as well. America has been sleeping at the wheel far too long due to the previous administration.
