NextImg:Trump killed NYC infrastructure plan as part Cuomo spat new book claims

Former President Donald Trump killed a Big Apple infrastructure project over a spat with disgraced ex-governor Andrew Cuomo, according to an excerpt from the upcoming book by former Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa.

Cuomo’s remarks criticizing Trump at the Democratic National Convention in 2020 led to the former administration to call off negotiations over federal aid for a number of projects in New York City, according to The Wall Street Journal, which obtained an excerpt from the book.

The two sides apparently had agreed to a cease-fire of sorts when it came to public mudslinging, which had been arranged by Trump’s son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, over the summer of that year, DeRosa said.

DeRosa claims that Cuomo agreed to stop calling out the former president over his mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In return, New York would receive expedited funds from the feds for three infrastructure projects, including the Gateway Project.

The spat led to more years of delays in the Gateway project.

Cuomo though reneged on the deal, railing against the administration at the convention, according to the book.

“We saw the failure of a government that tried to deny the virus, then tried to ignore it, and then tried to politicize it,” the ex-gov said of the Trump Administration during a speech at the August 2020 convention, at which Joe Biden became the Democratic nominee.

The next day, according to DeRosa, Kushner phoned her, saying “The deal is off.”

The long-stalled new tunnel connection between New Jersey and New York City has yet to break ground but planning started in 2021 with a completion date set for 2035.

Calls to the spokespeople for DeRosa and Trump were not returned. Cuomo’s spokesperson did not deny the account.
