The Jets’ season opener has not gone according to plan.

After Aaron Rodgers went down with an ankle injury and was carted off the field, backup quarterback Zach Wilson took over in a scene that only got more nightmarish for Jets fans.

When Wilson threw an interception straight into the hands of Bills linebacker Matt Milano with a little over three minutes left in the second quarter, a series of reactions summed up Monday night for the Jets so far.

“Just a terrible read by Zach Wilson,” ESPN commentator Troy Aikman said immediately after the play.

Moments later, a Jets fan was caught on the live “Monday Night Football” broadcast flipping the middle finger as Milano celebrated his INT — which came with a penalty for taunting after he gave Wilson an earful.

Seems about right for the current mood around Jets fans, as the recently acquired Rodgers was ruled out for the rest of the game in a disaster scenario.

Wilson, who was drafted No. 2 overall by the Jets in 2021, has struggled in the starting role with the team since his debut.

Rodgers, a four-time MVP, arrived this offseason via trade with an enormous amount of hype, billed as the savior who would take the Jets back to Super Bowl glory.

Wilson, 24, played just nine games last year and managed 1,688 passing yards and six touchdowns but also tossed seven interceptions.

He also threw more picks than touchdowns during his rookie 2021 season, when the BYU product threw 11 interceptions and just nine touchdowns in 13 games.

“One is of course watching the starters, making sure I’m 100 percent ready to go,” Wilson told The Post about his preparation for this week.

“You never know so you’ve always got to make sure you’re taking advantage of watching, learning from those reps, asking questions, preparing as if I was a starter. Then, the reps I do get on scout team, making sure I take advantage of them to work on things and continually try to get better.”
