Trinity Rodman was amused by boyfriend Ben Shelton’s victory over Rinky Hijikata on Friday after their second-round match at Wimbledon was suspended Thursday due to darkness.
It took all of 69 seconds for the American sensation to close out the match and defeat the Australian, 6-2, 7-5, 6-4, on Friday to set up a third-round clash with Italy’s Márton Fucsovics on Saturday.
“Nothing like a 2 minute long match,” Rodman wrote, adding a crying laughing emoji. “Congrats Benny @benshelton.”
The night prior, Shelton was visibly frustrated that the umpire suspended play at 9:29 p.m. local time while he was up, 5-4, in the third set and ready to serve to win the match.
Shelton had a heated conversation with the umpire, and the tournament supervisor intervened to calm him down, as seen in videos on social media.
The crowd was chanting for “one more game.”
Shelton and Hijikata both advocated for earlier stoppage twice during the match — once before the third set and again a few games later, which was about 30 minutes before play was officially suspended, according to Sports Illustrated.
During a press conference Friday, Shelton explained what the umpire said when he decided to suspend the match when he did.
“[The umpire] said it was five-minute warning until the hawk-eye was going down and that was including the changeover, so there wouldn’t be enough time to complete the game — and I was telling him I only need 60 seconds,” Shelton said, which drew laughter from the reporters.
“And that’s kind of what my goal was when I went out there [on Friday].”
Rodman, the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, included a video in her post Friday that featured Shelton on the video board after his victory.

Rodman also made the trip to Paris last month to support Shelton during his four-round run at the 2025 French Open.
In April, the Washington Spirit announced that Rodman would be sidelined indefinitely to deal with back issues.
