Tori Spelling got tough love from her youngest daughter prior to her and Dean McDermott’s divorce.
The actress admitted on Friday’s “Misspelling” episode that she had a conversation with Hattie, 13, that the then-preteen was “scared to” bring up.
At the time, Hattie asked her, “Have you ever considered what it would be like to be with someone else and not dad and get treated right?”
Spelling, 51, clarified to listeners that while Hattie “loves her dad,” she witnessed their troubled marriage.
“It got to the point where it was worse for the kids to see us together,” the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum explained. “We could no longer hide what was happening, the fights.
“He was an addict going through a lot, and a lot of it was taken out on me. And she saw that,” Spelling continued. “I didn’t like the person I was, trying to raise strong humans and just taking it and taking it and [saying], ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry.'”

She hinted at this elsewhere in the episode while recalling the time McDermott, 58, made headlines for cheating on her.
The former couple — who are also the parents of Liam, 18, Stella, 16, Finn, 12, and Beau, 7 — “never even talked about the affair” in 2013 because the actor “said he wanted to commit suicide” and was put on a psychiatric hold.
When Spelling told her kids that their dad was “off healing,” Finn asked, “Oh, because of his anger issues?”
She recalled Finn saying, “I hope they have surgery on him and they take out his anger.”
Spelling admitted that she and McDermott subsequently had makeup sex “in the bathroom in his [hospital] room and [it] was really good.”
She asked guest Brandi Glanville, “What is wrong with me?”
The duo stayed together despite the scandal, ultimately separating in June 2023 after a “beast-like” fight — which Spelling detailed on her podcast premiere last year.
She filed for divorce from McDermott the same day she filmed the April 2024 episode and let him know via phone call.
McDermott had moved on with girlfriend Lily Calo by that time and was celebrating being “clean and sober” after a “horrible” addiction battle.
“I finally surrendered and asked for help, and I got it,” he told Page Six in an exclusive March 2024 interview.
Spelling often reflects on their tumultuous relationship on her show, recently breaking down in tears over her single status.
“I don’t want to die alone,” the “resilient” ex-reality star sobbed last week. “I don’t know what I’m doing right now.”
