NextImg:Tommy DeVito’s agent, Sean Stellato, reveals Jets’ interest in QB that took ‘mad’ turn

If the Jets had more interest, there might be a very different Tommy DeVito story playing out in New Jersey.

Sean Stellato, DeVito’s now-famous agent, told The Post’s Steve Serby that the Jets reached out to him about the quarterback after he went undrafted following a solid college career at Syracuse and Illinois.

“They were the Bears, the Rams, the Commanders and the Giants,” Stellato said of NFL interest in the Giants’ newest folk hero.

“And then the Jets called after the draft and the Jets wanted to bring him in on a tryout (laugh). Not even sign him to a contract!”

The Giants signed DeVito after April’s NFL draft in a fairly unnoticed move — one of six undrafted free agents they inked at the time.

Stellato admitted he was not pleased that the Jets only were interested in a workout for DeVito, who was not among those invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.

“With all transparency, I said, ‘He’s gonna throw for 300 yards against you in the last preseason game,’ and they got kinda mad at me, and I felt bad after ’cause I said it out of frustration because I have the utmost respect for (GM) Joe Douglas and (assistant GM) Rex Hogan has been a dear friend through the years,” said Stellato, who became an internet sensation after being shown on “Monday Night Football” talking to DeVito while wearing a black-pinstriped suit and hat.

DeVito, who put up decent numbers in the Giants’ first two preseason games, did not throw for 300 yards against the Jets, but Stellato was not far off.

The New Jersey native completed 19-of-29 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 32-24 Jets victory.

DeVito has now become one of the feel-good stories of the NFL season, leading the Giants to three straight wins after starting the season on the practice squad and an afterthought with Daniel Jones entrenched as the starter and veteran Tyrod Taylor locked in as a backup.

DeVito saw his first NFL action against the Jets when Taylor — starting while Jones dealt with a neck injury — suffered a rib injury against the in-state rival.

The Giants barely trusted DeVito to attempt a forward pass in that game and the Jets made a last-second comeback.

DeVito has changed the narrative and entered Giants lore by leading the team to a game-winning field goal in a 24-22 win over the Packers on Monday.

It is interesting to consider what would have happened if the Jets and DeVito had gone through with a tryout and potential signing, given their own quarterback issues.

Aaron Rodgers was lost for the season in the opener and Zach Wilson was struggling so badly that the Jets turned to Tim Boyle for two games.

Boyle was so miserable in losses to the Dolphins and Falcons that the Jets turned back to Wilson, who had a career game in a win over the Texans on Sunday.

But had DeVito been on the Jets practice squad, who knows how the story plays out.
