Tommy DeVito mania is only growing.
The fame of the undrafted rookie quarterback from New Jersey has continued to spread across the tri-state area since becoming the Giants’ starter and leading the team to back-to-back wins over the Commanders and Patriots to double Big Blue’s win total.
The 25-year-old Don Bosco Prep alumnus has captured the hearts of fans both with his play and his story.
DeVito, who played his college ball at Syracuse, still lives at home with his parents, enjoys his mom’s chicken cutlets and has made the Italian finger-purse hand gesture a favorite for celebrating Giants touchdowns.
He’s become so beloved that during an autograph signing at Primo Hoagies in Wayne, N.J., on Tuesday night, hundreds lined up to meet DeVito, according to to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan.
He reported that fans had shoes, white tank tops and pictures of him doing the finger purse — and some asked him to sign “Tommy Cutlets.”
DeVito has also caught the eye of New York celebrities.
Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan seemed to like the idea of DeVito’s living situation, joking he was still living at home while being a millionaire.
DeVito is making $750,000 this season.
That’s a good thing, that’s healthy,” Morgan said during an appearance on the CW’s “Inside the NFL” this week. “You want to get all the caregiving you can get from them. He needs it. Can’t just get coaching on the field.
DeVito’s teammates haven’t been shy about how much they like and are rooting for him and star running back Saquon Barkley could barely contain his excitement when the QB was introduced at MetLife Stadium on Sunday.
Barkley was shown by NFL Films doing the finger-purse ge hsture and jumping up and down to hype the hometown crowd while yelling “Jersey!” when DeVito’s name was called.
“Me and you, man, go out there and have fun. I love you, boy,” Barkley told him before calling him “Tommy Cutlets.”
DeVito, who likely will be under center again for the Giants’ game against the Packers on Dec. 11 after a bye week, is 66-for-105 passing for 697 yards, seven touchdowns and three interceptions this season.
