For those looking for the latest bathroom decor trend, urine for a treat.
“Toilet flowers” are the new controversial hack that involves putting fresh flowers directly inside the toilet tank — yes, the tank of water that sits at the back of the bathroom throne.
It’s definitely a peculiar way to elevate your bathroom, but it also feels gross to do so — and it could mess with the plumbing system.
The person who seemingly originated the trend online, @thedailynelly, shared a video of her so-called hack, saying that it is “guaranteed to leave your guests speechless.”
The video shows her arranging flowers neatly into her toilet tank — and viewers were dumping on the trend in the comments.
“Ok, Martha Sewer,” one person joked.
“What happens to the toilet tank lid? Cheese platter perhaps?” another quipped.
“Wait until she learns about vases,” someone commented.
“Not the pooquet,” one cleverly nicknamed the “toilet flowers.”
“Let this be the first and last time anyone do this,” one wrote.
Many pointed out that with each flush, she’s also flushing the flower food, and flushing the cut flower stems can damage the plumbing. As the toilet flushes, the stems can move around and prevent the toilet from flushing properly.
Some plumbers even chimed in to warn against the trend.
“I’m a floral designer & my husband is a plumber. We say no to this,” someone declared.
“From an owner of a plumbing company, DO NOT do this,” another said. “Unless of course you are looking for more opportunities to support your local plumber.”
Rather than putting flowers directly into your toilet, many commenters suggested simply putting a vase on top of the lid — or anywhere else in the bathroom.
“You can definitely achieve this look while keeping the lid on and a low vase the length of the toilet lid. I guess I’m just thinking outside of the toilet,” someone suggested.
