Todd Chrisley’s prison stay is far from purr-fect. The “Chrisley Knows Best” alum opened up about the alleged “disgustingly filthy” living conditions he’s been experiencing since reporting to Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida, in January.
“The food is dated and it’s out of date by, at minimum, a year. It’s a year past expiration. And they’re literally starving these men to death here. These men are getting — I don’t know — they are getting 1,000 calories a day,” Chrisley, 54, claimed during a recent interview on Chris Cuomo’s CUOMO show.
The reality star has tried to use his own money at the commissary instead, but claims that an employee is making it a challenge for him.
“I’ve been told this by a staff member — one of the ways she’s trying to break me is by cutting down what you can buy in commissary,” he explained. “So, before she came here, you could buy 12 packs of tuna a week. She cut it down to six, and from six it went to three. She has not given a reason. When I asked her about it, she said commissary is a privilege, not a right.”
But it gets worse.
“You’ve got rats, you’ve got squirrels in the storage facility where the food is. They just covered it up with plastic and then tore the ceiling out because of all the black mold and found a dead cat in the ceiling, and it dropped down on the top of the food,” he claimed.
“[They said], ‘What we need to do is we need to put him in diesel therapy and put him in shackles and let him ride around the country for a time and then bring him back and that will humble him. He thinks he’s in one of his mansions that he’s used to living in, but this is the f–king [Bureau of Prisons]. That’s what he’ll need.'”
Chrisley and his wife, Julie Chrisley, reported to prison earlier this year. In August 2019, they pleaded not guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy to commit bank fraud for allegedly evading federal taxes.
In September, it was confirmed that both of their prison sentences have been shortened. Todd will leave the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola on Jan. 22, 2033, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ online inmate search system, Insider reported.
Julie, for her part, will now be released from the Federal Medical Center Lexington on Oct. 19, 2028 —shaving 14 months off her seven-year bid.
Earlier this month, their daughter Savannah Chrisley revealed that she hasn’t visited her parents as much within the past few weeks.
“That has been really tough, especially going to visit Mom and Dad and being in a relationship and feeling like I want something for myself at times,” the 26-year-old said on her “Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley” podcast. “So we have gone to see them almost every weekend, but this past month, I mean, it’s been three weeks since we’ve seen them.”
“That’s been because of just me and the kids travel, and holidays and school and work,” she added. “I have this layer of guilt that weights over me like, ‘Oh my gosh, you have to go see them. Like how selfish of you?’ I’m the angel on one side and devil on the other, of just this constant battle of feeling what I’m doing isn’t enough.”
Savannah is currently the guardian of her younger brother, Grayson, 16, and niece, Chloe, 11.
“Luckily, both my parents understand,” she went on. “They want the kids to be happy and to not be visiting a prison 24/7. But I think that’s just my own internal battle.”
