NextImg:Todd Bowles, Jason Licht land multi-year extensions as Buccaneers extol leadership

The Buccaneers’ leadership will be staying intact for the long haul.

Head coach Todd Bowles and general manager Jason Licht have been signed to multi-year extensions, the team announced Thursday.

ESPN reported that Bowles’ extension will run through the 2028 season, though financial terms of both deals were unclear.

Buccaneers owner and co-chairman Joel Glazer praised the two for their excellent leadership in a statement.

“Jason and Todd’s leadership has been critical to our organization’s success. The winning culture they have established has us well positioned for the future,” Glazer said. “The continuity and stability they provide will play a large role in our ability to compete for additional championships.”

Bowles is now entering his fourth season with the team after leading Tampa to the NFC South title in the previous three.

He has a record of 27-24 for a .529 winning percentage, which ranks third best in team history.

This comes after he went 24-40 with the Jets before going to Tampa Bay, first as the team’s defensive coordinator, then as the head coach.

“I am excited to continue working with Jason for years to come as we build on the success we’ve enjoyed and keep reaching for even bigger and better goals,” Bowles said. “I also appreciate the confidence that the Glazer Family has shown in my abilities to lead this football team. It is a responsibility I do not take lightly and am honored to have.”

Licht, for his part, has also done a great job in the NFL draft, as Tampa Bay leads the NFL in total snaps by homegrown players drafted in rounds 1-5 since 2014.

He has been able to find talented players such as Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Vita Vea and Tristan Wirfs and helped the team win Super Bowl 2021.
