Today With Hoda & Jenna hit an awkward snag during the morning chat when Jenna Bush Hager realized mid-sentence that she didn’t “really know what to say” about the topic at hand.

Bush Hager and Hoda Kotb were discussing Halle Berry’s recent interview in which she admitted that she and Angelina Jolie got off to a “rocky start” on their upcoming project. But the conversation took an awkward turn when the Today co-hosts discussed first impressions and making new friends.

“I feel like when I meet a new friend, I feel like I know right away,” Kotb said. “I feel like there’s a connection right away, and if I feel like I can have a deep conversation quickly then I know that’s my kind of person.”

Bush Hager began addressing Kotb’s comment before she later trailed off. “… I don’t really know what to say,” she admitted, causing Kotb to begin laughing uncontrollably.

Kotb tried to help steer the conversation back, saying, “No, but I think your point is…,” but she couldn’t stop laughing to complete her point.

“No, please stop,” Bush Hager jokingly begged her co-host as Kotb continued laughing at her. “This is what sometimes happens and I don’t even know what it is.”

“This was supposed to be a deep convo!” Kotb replied once she got her bearings.

But Bush Hager was eager to “move on” to their next segment about Mariah Carey‘s love for taking baths, which the Today host surprisingly had plenty to say about. She also apologized to Carey, the reigning Queen of Christmas, for recent reports claiming that she and Kotb were going for her crown with their new Christmas single, “A Carefree Christmas.”

“She’s the queen, and we’re her dutchesses,” Bush Hager said. “We’re her ladies in waiting… And we’re going to be waiting ’til next Christmas.”
