T.J. Watt shared his experience during the Steelers’ terrifying flight home from Las Vegas on Monday morning during Friday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show.”
After their Sunday night win over the Raiders, Pittsburgh’s chartered Airbus A330-900 had to make an emergency landing in Kansas City due to an oil pressure failure in one of the engines, according to KDKA in Pittsburgh.
“Hearing ‘code yellow’ and ‘flight attendants you’ve prepared for this,’ ‘everyone fasten your seatbelts’ isn’t a fun feeling,” Watt said on McAfee’s show.
“I do have to admit that I got some comfort knowing I was on a flight with our team owner and a bunch of multi-millionaires so I knew they’d hopefully take every precaution known to man to get us down safely.”
Watt explained the team remained on the airplane in Kansas City for about five hours before another plane came to bring them back to Pittsburgh.
“There were a lot of Dunkin’ Donuts being passed around — a lot of breakfast pizzas…no one slept,” Watt continued.
McAfee said the team had “grit” to overcome the setback.
“Gonna have to go through adversity like that to get to the Super Bowl,” Mcafee said.
Watt then shared the team was scrambling to look up on Google what “code yellow” meant after hearing the announcement.
“I was holding my breath until we hit the ground,” Watt said of his return home.
Watt also shared the flight attendants were trying not to cause alarm, but it was clear the team and flight were in a state of emergency.
He described their rush as a “swift walk” and said it was clear they “weren’t going to answer any questions.”
“I would s–t my pants,” Mcafee said.
Eventually, the Steelers made it back safely and will take on the Texans in Houston on Sunday.
