Jamarco Jones made an impression at Titans training camp, but not a good one.
The offensive lineman was waived by Tennessee on Thursday after he was involved in several on-field fights this week.
“Jones was involved in practice field incidents in back-to-back sessions, including a block on Thursday that led to his early departure,” the Titans statement read. “It also nearly sparked a brawl with irate defensive players.”
According to ESPN, the Thursday toss-out came after the 27-year-old Jones, who was primed to start at right tackle, laid a crackback block on linebacker Chance Campbell.
Teammate Azeez Al-Shaair reportedly got defensive over the play, pushing himself in Jones’ face before the two players were separated and Jones was kicked out of practice.
The Titans also said Jones was “involved in a skirmish” with two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons on Tuesday and was ejected from the field.
“We don’t want to practice like that,” Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel said, according to ESPN.
“We talk all the time about being competitive and going to that line, and certainly not going to do anything that hurts the team. We don’t want to see that.”
With Jones waived, the Titans now need to fill the right tackle position.
Nicholas Petit-Frere, who started 16 of 17 games at right tackle in 2022, would be the obvious solution but he’s suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season after violating the NFL’s gambling policy.
Petit-Frere reportedly placed non-NFL sports bets from the Titans facility.
Tennessee signed offensive lineman Chris Hubbard last Friday and he will likely now slot in at right tackle until Petit-Frere returns.
Jones signed with the Titans in March 2022 but didn’t play in a single regular-season game because of a shoulder injury that landed him on injured reserve for most of the season.
The Ohio State product joined the league in 2018 after the Seattle Seahawks selected him in the fifth round of that year’s NFL Draft.
