An harrowing scene unfolded with 16 laps to go during the Indy 500 on Sunday when Felix Rosenqvist’s rear left tire flew into the stands during a collision with the wall.

The tire was headed for the grandstands and barely missed hitting fans in the section; no injuries were reported.

The tire ended up in a parking lot where at least one car was damaged, and the race was immediately halted with a red flag.

Driver Kyle Kirkwood was also flipped upside down in the accident as he turned over against the wall.

There were no reported injuries as a result of the crash.

“I’m just glad I’m so safe,” Kirkwood told NBC after the wreck. “Glad we’re OK, glad the car was super fast but disappointed in the finish, no doubt.”

Josef Newgarden won the Indy 500, overtaking Marcus Ericsson in the last two laps after a restart.
