NextImg:Tigers vs. Pirates pick: MLB odds, predictions, best bets

Few pitchers have been better over the last month than Eduardo Rodriguez, who is finally looking like the frontline ace that the Tigers inked to a big deal two years ago.

And he’s primed for another strong showing on Wednesday versus the Pirates.

It hasn’t been all clear skies for Rodriguez, who opened the year allowing a combined seven runs to the Rays and Astros — two of the best lineups in baseball — in his first two starts of the season.

Since then, he’s been virtually untouchable: he leads all qualified starters in ERA (0.43) and WHIP (0.67) over his last six starts, and he’s allowing the fifth-lowest hard-hit rate (22 percent) over that stretch.

Just as impressive as the overall numbers is his consistency on the mound.

Rodriguez has allowed one run or fewer in each of those six starts, lasting at least 5 ²/₃ innings in all of them, and he’s thrown at least seven scoreless innings in four of his last five outings.

He’s been especially sharp as of late, having thrown 15 straight scoreless innings over his last two starts ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Pittsburgh.

He’s posted nearly twice as many strikeouts (17) as base runners allowed (nine) in those starts, and he coaxed exactly 13 swinging strikes in both contests.

He should have his way with a Pirates lineup that has scored two or fewer runs in 10 of its 13 previous games entering this midweek series in Detroit.
