NextImg:Tigers’ Akil Baddoo assisted in getting caught stealing in the worst way

More like Akil Badd-oof.

The Tigers outfielder was caught stealing in the top of the second inning against the Guardians on Monday, and he got some pain for his troubles.

Cleveland catcher Mike Zunino’s throw to second tailed just out in front of second baseman Andres Gimenez’s glove — instead hitting Baddoo in a rather sensitive spot.

The already terrible moment got worse for the 24-year-old outfielder, as the ball bounced into Gimenez’s glove and the infielder applied the tag, with Baddoo essentially assisting in his own out.

“The ball hit him and Giemenez was able to catch it and tag him,” the Bally Sports broadcasters remarked.

“That’s unbelievable. Are you kidding me?”

Unfortunately for Baddoo, who remained on his hands and knees at the bag, there was no kidding involved.

He finished the game — a 6-2 Tigers win — going 0-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout on the the day.

Baddoo was a second-round pick by the Twins in 2016, and after Detroit selected him in the 2020 Rule 5 Draft, Baddoo became a regular in the Tigers’ lineup for the 2021 season — appearing in 124 games, hitting .259 and compiling a .766 OPS.

This year, through his first 22 games entering Monday, Baddoo has hit .234 with a .626 OPS, and against the Guardians, he hit No. 6 in Detroit’s lineup.
