As a New Yorker and office worker, I expect a lot from my everyday bag.
The right style has to fit everything I need for my 9-to-5 — laptop, lunch, phone, makeup bag, various charging equipment, sometimes a light sweater or folding umbrella — but also be chic enough to carry to any after-hours events, like a cocktail party or press dinner.
That’s precisely why I’ve fallen hard for Polo Ralph Lauren’s Polo ID Large Shoulder Bag, which I recently borrowed and have been test-driving for the past month; it’s sleek and stylish, but still fits a lot (and I mean a LOT) of stuff.

I challenged myself to break out of my all-black bag rut by opting for the tan version, which matches most of the contents of my closet and looks equally great paired with a striped sundress or a khaki trench coat.
Just a few of the many things I love about this particular bag? The Italian leather exterior and suede interior are incredibly sumptuous and high-quality, you can carry it either on your shoulder or as a crossbody (thanks to the adjustable buckled strap) and thanks to the minimal hardware, it’s incredibly lightweight.
I’m also a fan of the barely-there branding: a single, slim brass plaque featuring the brand’s signature polo player emblem.
Perhaps most importantly, it fits all my aforementioned everyday essentials with room to spare — my MacBook, my Tupperware full of salad, my portable phone charger, you name it.

While I appreciate the spaciousness of the large version, by the way, the style also available in small and mini iterations, should you be seeking something more petite.
And did I mention this bag is an absolute compliment magnet? The first day I brought mine to the office, no fewer than five of my colleagues came over to ask about it (and gush over it).
Don’t just take it from me, though; the bag’s earned stellar reviews from other shoppers, too.

“The most beautiful bag in my collection,” one Bloomingdale’s customer wrote, calling it “irresistible.”
Another dubbed it the “perfect everyday bag,” adding that it “gets better every day.”
And a third wrote, “Prettier in person. Great quality, lots of room. Comfortable to wear.”
