Red Bull might give you wings, but for some that comes with unwanted side effects.
Energy drinks can seem like a life-saver when it comes to staying awake to keep up with school, work and other parts of life.
According to Mintel research, the market for energy drinks had surged by 71% since 2017 and reached a total of $23 billion in sales in 2022.
But energy drinks might not be worth all the buzz, with risks of dehydration, heart complications, anxiety and insomnia, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
MiO, a liquid beverage mix owned by Kraft Heinz, has launched a program designed to compensate consumers for the pitfalls of energy drinks: Energy Drink Insurance.
If you’ve suffered from brain fog, jitters, fatigue, excessive sweating, headaches or anything else, MiO might pay you for your troubles.
Participants can submit their claims on EnergyDrinkInsurance.com by outlining their experiences and aftermath — but entertainment is key.
Submissions will be reviewed by the company’s expert claims assessment team — and “the more entertaining details, the better.”
According to the site, submissions will be judged on the following criteria: 50% entertainment value based on delivery and humor, 50% amount of damage caused by the energy drink.
A written entry qualifies contestants to receive up to $50 in damages, while a video entry could offer up to $200. Along with the cash, select participants will get free MiO Energy “to provide a source of better energy for next time.”
“MiO goes beyond enhancing water; it’s about adding benefits, like energy, that elevates hydration” Samantha Mills, Director of Brand Communications at Kraft Heinz, said in a press release.
“With our new Energy Drink Insurance, we’re proving that MiO can help prevent unwelcomed energy side effects with a more uplifting alternative to ensure you stay energized and hydrated throughout your day.”
Those interested in receiving “damages” from MiO for their energy drink horror stories must submit a claim on the website by Dec. 19.
