Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner‘s swift divorce shocked Bachelor Nation when they announced they were breaking up just months after ABC’s Golden Wedding special. But Nist revealed in a new interview that she and the Golden Bachelor were having more trouble behind the scenes than they previously let on.

“You really can’t know somebody in four weeks. I’ll say that. That’s all I can say,” Nist said during a recent appearance on the Almost Famous podcast. “I don’t want to say any more than that.”

She added, “It’s not something I want to discuss at this point. It’s not just the location thing. That’s all I’ll say.”

Though she didn’t reveal what else may have contributed to their break-up, Nist explained on the podcast that their original “plan” was to find a home together in Charleston, South Carolina, until Turner instead suggested they travel to each other every six weeks.

“I wasn’t ready to sell my home until we found a home. We never got to the point where we found a home,” she said. “Gerry came up with the idea of doing six weeks there and six weeks here. I truly wanted to have our home together. I was willing to move. I wanted to have our big home where our family could come visit us. I didn’t want to go back and forth to our homes.”

“It wasn’t what we had discussed,” she continued. “We had never discussed six weeks here, six weeks there.”

When Nist and Turner announced their divorce on Good Morning America in April 2024, Turner explained that they had ran into some difficulties compromising over their living situations, as Nist lives in New Jersey, while he lives in Indiana.

“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families,” he said at the time. “So we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to, to live apart.”

But he maintained that he is “still in love with her,” saying, “I root for her every day.”

On the podcast, Nist noted that they moved quickly with the marriage because “there was a time constraint on the offer” for a wedding.

“They weren’t offering [the wedding] later. It was now. And we said, ‘If we really are going to get married, we should do it because we’re going to get the wedding of our dreams.’ We are older, why waste any time? Do it now,” she said. Nist maintained that they had “faith and hope” going into the marriage.

Nist and Turner settled their divorce in June 2024, just six months after they got married in January on ABC.
