You know the best kind of problem to have? 

The kind in the rearview mirror. The one you survived. Moved forward from. Emerged somehow better for it all. 

The Yankees had a starting pitching problem. It began in spring training when they took one body blow after another — notably Gerrit Cole lost for the season, but also AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil gone until July and Clarke Schmidt for the first three weeks. This did not seem like something the Yankees would shake easily. Perhaps not until a trade deadline fix. Maybe not even then. 

And through 13 games — through Marcus Stroman’s third and currently last start — the Yankees rotation was dead last in the majors in ERA at 5.46. You wondered as good as their torpedo-bat offense was if it could outscore the mistakes. If the deep, strong bullpen would be able to withstand the workload.
