Sign Up NowThis is not the situation the Yankees wanted to be in.
Not at the All-Star break and not after a 2024 season in which general manager Brian Cashman said he thought the Yankees were “bad defensively,” despite making a run to the World Series.
In February, Cashman said of the team’s offseason, “We tried to deal with it. Our work product was able to get us into the World Series. Hopefully, this version is a little bit different.”
That seemed to mean no more Gleyber Torres — now an All-Star second baseman with Detroit — with Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second, maybe DJ LeMahieu or Oswaldo Cabrera at third, Anthony Volpe still at short and Paul Goldschmidt at first.
