NextImg:The week in whoppers: USA Today whitewashes Biden corruption, MSNBC resumes COVID fearmongering and more

We say: Hunter’s foibles? Does USA Today think it can whitewash the first son’s crimes — and fool Americans into believing Joe Biden’s involvement in Hunter’s influence-peddling is no big deal?

That Biden family corruption is just “hyper-partisan” attacks by Republicans, as an article this tweet links to suggests? Please.

Dictionary.com defines “foible” as “a minor weakness or failing of character; slight flaw or defect.”

Hunter was a serious drug addict and tax cheat who lied to illegally buy a gun, fathered a child out of wedlock and made millions selling influence to foreign entities, including US enemies like China.

And if Joe didn’t benefit directly from Hunter’s dealings (he almost surely did), he was nonetheless happy to help Hunter with his corruption.

“COVID-19 hospitalizations are up 12% from last week  . . . [It’s] raising concerns.”

— MSNBC, Wednesday

We say: Some “news” outlets just can’t quit their COVID fearmongering, even though the bug hasn’t been a major problem for over a year.

Yes, hospitalizations rose to 7,100 for the week of July 15, up from 6,444 the week before.

Yet that’s no more than for the flu in an average week. And the numbers have been low for months, with little sign of any long-term uptick.

Yet an MSNBC medical contributor actually suggested people start wearing masks again (which don’t help much anyway).

We say: What in the world is the WaPo talking about? There’s no “crackdown” on “LGBTQ+” communities in the US or efforts to “restrict” gay rights — by conservatives or anyone else.

More important, in many parts of the Middle East, homosexuality has been a crime, sometimes punishable by death.

The WaPo story focused largely on Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan, which “all have queer scenes,” but there’s nothing even remotely comparable in America to the restrictions and hostility of even those countries.

“Can you imagine our reading that James Madison or Thomas Jefferson tried to overthrow the government so they could stay in power?”

— Rev. Al Sharpton, Wednesday

We say: Uh, maybe those two weren’t the best examples to contrast with Donald Trump, who claimed the 2020 election was stolen.

Rev. Al Sharpton mistakenly suggested founding fathers like Thomas Jefferson and James Madison would never have tried to overthrow a government.

As countless tweets savagely noted, someone needs to tell Sharpton that Madison and Jefferson did overthrow a government.
