“We cannot and will not normalize serious criminal conduct.”
— Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Tuesday
We say: In his Day 1 memo, Bragg vowed not to prosecute numerous crimes or seek a prison sentence for any crime except the very worst, like murder.
In 2022, his first year as Manhattan DA, he busted down more than half of his felony cases to misdemeanors — declining to prosecute 35% more felonies than in 2019.
Just last week, he lowered a felony charge against a career criminal (with 90 arrests!) to a misdemeanor. He’s all about normalizing serious crime!
We say: Huh? What GOP leader is “trying to wipe away our history” — of racism or anything else?
Yes, some, like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, want to ban divisive, false school curricula like critical race theory.
But DeSantis also expanded African-American studies in Florida schools.
If anyone’s erasing history, it’s Newsom and his left-leaning allies, who’ve pushed to rename roads and buildings, rewrite politically incorrect books and remove statues of “bad” historical figures.
“The administration identified [the Chinese spy-balloon threat] and did something about it.”
— WH Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Tuesday
We say: Sure, it did.
It sat on its hands and watched the balloon fly over the entire US for a whole week — as it likely, per a new report, gathered sensitive information and transmitted it back to Beijing in real-time.
We say: What better proof that America’s kids are in trouble than this politically motivated mangling of facts by a national union leader, American Federation of Teachers boss Randi Weingarten?
As governor, DeSantis doesn’t control Tallahassee’s police; they answer to its Democratic mayor and commissioners.
And protesters were allowed to remain during “normal business hours” and only asked to leave after sundown.
Meanwhile, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg this week did indict an opponent of Democrats, Donald Trump — and on legally dubious charges.
We say: For a fact-checker, The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler sure has trouble with facts.
The truth?
Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump merely linked to a story about the daughter of the judge in the Manhattan DA’s case against their father. It was that story that contained the photos.
Re-posting something relevant — that’s already been made public — is hardly an attempt to “intimidate.”
