NextImg:The week in whoppers: Biden bows to border reality, Jamaal Bowman floats a juvenile fire-alarm excuse and more

“There will not be another foot of wall constructed in my administration.”

— Then-candidate Joe Biden, 2020

vs.

“There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States.”

Biden DHS boss Alejandro Mayorkas, Wednesday

We say: With Congress moving to force President Biden to extend the border wall, Democratic governors, mayors and lawmakers fuming over migrants and an election coming up, the prez finally bows to reality, reverses course and, through DHS, acknowledges the need to control the southern border.

“I was rushing to make a vote. . . . I thought the alarm would open the door.”

— Rep. Jamaal Bowman, Saturday

Bowman pulled a fire alarm as Democrats sought to delay a critical House vote.
USCP

We say: Bad enough an actual member of Congress would resort to such a juvenile (not to mention dangerous and criminal) act as pulling a fire alarm to delay a House vote.

Worse still that the former middle-school principal would roll out such a lame, middle-school excuse to cover his actions.

“Given [Republicans’] unwillingness to break from MAGA extremism. . . . House Democratic leadership will vote yes on the pending Republican Motion to Vacate the Chair.”

—  House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Tuesday

We say: Translation: Because the GOP includes a few extremists, we’ll side with those extremists who seek to oust the speaker and bring a halt to all official business. Jeffries also vowed later to “continue to put people over politics and work in a bipartisan way,” following the Dems’ largely partisan vote to dethrone Kevin McCarthy.

Does he really think anyone will buy such sanctimonious hogwash?

“[Los Angeles’ zero-bail rule will] make us safer, because it’s going to create more room in our county jail to hold all the people that are dangerous.”

— LA County District Attorney George Gascón, Tuesday

We say: Sorry, but Gascón’s claim is nothing but cover for his warped, pro-criminal ideology.

Setting all but the most serious criminals free instantly after arrest (without even seeing a judge, in many cases!) won’t make anyone “safer.”

And if LA jails lack space for the most dangerous, the city can just build more of them!
